GCSE Programmes

The GCE A-level programmes are taught over one-year, 18-months or two-years. They begin in September and January (18-months programme) and students usually take four or five subjects in the Lower 6th and and three or four subjects in the Upper 6th. A-level programmes are intensive and demanding. The College expects its students to show industry, organisation and commitment.

GCSE Programmes

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is the name of a set of qualifications, generally taken by secondary school students at the age of 14 to 16 years.  The examinations mark the completion of the first stage of secondary education.

GCSEs are usually assessed by a combination of written examinations at the end of the course and controlled assessments completed by students during the course.

Students receive a GCSE Award for each subject taken.  The Awards are graded from A* to G.

GCSEs are a requirement for entry to the 6th form to study for the General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level (A-level).

Abbey College Cambridge will offer a full programme of study leading to GCSEs in academic subjects with effect from 1 September 2010.

The Abbey College Cambridge Full Course GCSE Programme will comprise 8 academic subjects, chosen to prepare students for their A-level studies.
